Hashim Welfare Association (HWA) is an integral part of our charitable
organisation. It was set up locally to manage the affairs of the HWH
and has been performing its function very well. The very smooth and
effective running of the hospital would not have been possible without
the full-time dedication of Hajji Malik Mohammed Nawaz who is native to
the village, land donor, patron of the charity and father of Dr Awan.

Khizar Hayat HWH, Amjad Ashraf, Accountant (UK) and Dr Awan discussing HWH accounts before the budget meeting

The officials and doctors of HWA are most busy twice
a year in March and October. Between the harvests more rural patients
come for treatment. It is also the time when more people from the UK
visit us due to fairer weather in Pakistan. The visitors get involved
in the annual budget meeting (in March) and annual general meeting (in
October) and have a chance to see the work of the charity in a
transparent way.
AGM 2008 (Pakistan)
Our annual general meeting was held on 31 October 2008. This year was particularly impressive as many donors from Woking, UK, were present and they enjoyed a traditional village style meeting in the hospital grounds. Our members from the UK were glad to see the hospital staff, consultants, engineers, builders and local villagers benefiting from the hospital services.

A tour of the hospital with our supporters from Woking, UK

The HWA had noticed the increasing donations from Woking UK, and decided to reciprocate with donation of Urdu books to Shah Jahan Mosque, Woking for the Urdu school. It is hoped that the good wishes from both sides will continue in the future.

HWA will provide scholarships to bright students from local schools and help them in paramedical training so that they can get jobs in the hospital after the training. The Hashim Welfare Sports Club is proving very useful in providing healthy sports activities for school boys and young men from local villages and it is providing volunteers for the charity.
Swat relief effort
On the suggestion of donors, a Ramadan relief programme has begun to provide food packs to the poor in the villages around the HWH. We will be duplicating the food pack program for the displaced people of Swat, so that they are able fulfil the Islamic rite of fasting with a nutritious meal in the mornings and evenings. Our staff are already on the ground with a medical relief camp in Sheikh Jana, Soabi.
