The Hashim Welfare Hospital charity aims to provide relief from sickness through the provision of a hospital, and to advance education through the provision of books and scholarships in this region of rural Pakistan.

Dr M Idrees Awan felt sure that Allah was giving him the determination to build a hospital in Pindi Hashim (Kharian), Pakistan, when he was performing umra in 1996. The charity received its first official donation in 1998. Dr Awan's father donated some land and Mr Riaz Ahmed, a local architect, agreed to design and supervise the

building of the hospital. Local people supported the project as much as they were able, including Mr Malik Hussain, a local villager who agreed to sell land to provide road access at a greatly reduced price. The layout for the foundations was done by the grace of Allah in 1999 and within six months the first phase of construction was almost complete.

The first phase of the hospital building will act as a multi-purpose clinic until all the building phases are complete, then it will be used as an out-patients department only. The eastern side will provide a dispensary etc for out-patients and the west side will include an accident/emergency department and small surgery. The priority for 2002 is primary medical care.

The Hashim Welfare Hospital is a UK charity which is supported by consultants from UK hospitals, other UK charities, appeals and individual donations. It is a charity supported by Radio Ramadhan, Blackburn.
